Oh la la. 2009. The year of GaGa
August 2008. News comes down the wire, as from time to time it does, of a new Pop Hopeful. This one arrives fully formed (you don’t need to emerge from nothing) with astonishing visuals, sonics and a manifesto: POP MUSIC WILL NEVER BE LOWBROW. All amazing, but there’s nothing so forlorn as incredible pop that isn’t actually popular (see Annie) and this is too outré. It couldn’t work. Could it?
